Coexistence of IEEE 802.11B and IEEE 802.11E Stations in QoS Enabled Wireless Local Area Network

چکیده
The IEEE 802.11e amendment is being designed to be compatible with the legacy 802.11 standard, therefore users with 802.11 network card will be able to connect and work without problems in a new QoS Basic Service Set (QBSS). However, this coexistence may deteriorate QoS support provided by the new standard. In this paper the influence of 802.11b DCF stations on the QoS provision in IEEE 802.11e standard is analysed and new mechanism for performance improvement of legacy IEEE 802.11 stations is also proposed.

QoS protection for IEEE 802.11E in WLAN with shared EDCA and DCF access
The next deployments of IEEE 802.11 WLAN will involve the coexistence of the legacy best effort stations and the new recently standardised QoS-aware stations in QoS Basic Service Set (QBSS). However, if no control is applied to the legacy stations, this coexistence may deteriorate QoS support provided by the new IEEE 802.11e standard. In this paper the influence of IEEE 802.11b DCF stations on ...
متن کاملPerformance Comparison of IEEE 802.11e EDCA and 802.11b DCF Under Non- Saturation Condition using Network Simulator
In this study, throughput and delay performance of IEEE 802.11b and 802.11e is presented under non-saturation conditions. In order to improve the performance of IEEE 802.11b, the IEEE 802.11e has been proposed to improve the Quality of Services (QoS) for multimedia application. The standard 802.11b CSMA/CA contention mechanism does not support QoS but the standard 802.11e provides QoS by adjust...
متن کاملStudy of Quality of Service by using 802.11e
Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) are one of the fastest growing wireless access technologies. The IEEE 802.11 Standard doesn’t support any QoS mechanisms. IEEE 802.11 MAC layer supports two basic access mechanisms, DCF (Distributed Coordination Function) and PCF (Point Coordination Function). The EDCA mechanism of the IEEE 802.11e standard provides QoS support through service differentiatio...
متن کاملMobility and QoS of 802.11 and 802.11e wireless LAN standards
Quality of service is a key problem in wireless environments where bandwidth is scarce and channel conditions are time varying and sometimes implies highly packet losses. IEEE 802.11b/g/a wireless LAN are the most widely used WLAN standards today, and the IEEE 802.11e quality of service enhancement standard exists and introduces quality of service support for multimedia applications. This paper...
